About Commit in September

Commit in September is a national advocacy campaign demonstrating young Americans’ grassroots commitment to global development ahead of this September’s United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) Summit.

This September, President Obama will address a special UN MDGs Summit.  The MDGs, eight goals to cut extreme poverty in half by 2015, are far from being met.  President Obama and Congress have the unprecedented opportunity to follow through on commitments to achieve the goals, but they cannot act without grassroots political capital.

The Millennium Campus Network (MCN), with sponsorship from the United Nations Millennium Campaign & the United Nations Foundation, is launching CommitinSeptember.com, an online petition to President Obama and Congress on the MDGs.  The goal is to get thousands of signatures by the end of July and deliver these to the White House and Congress in early August, in the lead up to the September summit.  The MCN petition focuses on the MDGs, with specific asks for United States commitments to global education, global health, and long term development in Haiti.
